The Freedom Tower wound up rising 1,776 feet over Ground Zero in Lower Manhattan when it was completed in 2013. It is seen here on September 11, 2011 -- the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks that destroyed the twin towers of the World Trade Center. Construction began in 2006.

The New York City span has a number of other names, but this is the one made famous by Simon & Garfunkel in their 1966 hit song. It spans the East River between Manhattan and Queens. In the middle, seen here, is Roosevelt Island.
